David Tollen in Taiwan: Speaking Engagements & Book Tour for Mandarin Translation of The Tech Contracts Handbook

David Tollen was honored to have been invited to speak before multiple audiences in Taiwan the first week of June 2025. He addressed various information technology (IT) contracting topics and discussed The Tech Contracts Handbook (3rd ed.), now translated into Mandarin.

Some highlights of David’s trip:

  • On June 2, 2025, David spoke to students and faculty of Chung Yuan Christian University, in Taoyuan City. This talk addressed intellectual property (IP) issues in IT contracts. Of particular note were problems resulting from using a 300-year old copyright law, for artificial intelligence (AI), software, and other IT.
  • On June 3, David spoke to the Taiwan Bar Association, with hundreds in attendance (in person and online). This talk addressed contracts for purchase and sale of AI, focusing on the special issues raised by generative AI, including the challenges surrounding service level agreements (SLAs) and warranties for outputs, and special IP problems.
  • On June 4, David spoke to the Taiwan Bar Association about key concepts that govern and define tech contracts. There were a variety of lawyers in attendance, some who spoke English and others who only spoke Mandarin. Conversations were smooth and productive though thanks to interpretation services provided by Kara Plastich, who also translated The Tech Contracts Handbook into Mandarin.

Finally, David brought his tour to a close at National Taipei University of Technology Law School.

We greatly appreciate our gracious hosts, and engaged audiences, in Taiwan.
